JLSP Plays Games, Serves Dinner at Dayton's Bluff Rec Center

On Thursday September 16, JLSP Members kicked off the school year with some food and fun! Children and their parents were served their choice of sandwiches, while engaging in the game of their choice. Junior League Members had some tough competition in games of Sorry, Connect Four, Life and others from the children at Dayton's Bluff Recreation Center - as well as one another! It was a fun time for JLSP Members as we played games, ate and talked with the students, ranging in age from six to sixteen.

Conversations varied dramatically - from game rule discussions ("How much money does each player start with in the game of Life?") to favorite school subjects, plans beyond high school, that night's homework and how everyone feels about a new teacher and a new school year. It was a meaningful time for both the kids and JLSP Members. What a great way to connect with these kids - by simply being present and spending time. We're building some great bonds through play! Please join us this month on October 14 as we spend time reading with the children at Dayton's Bluff Recreation Center.

Throughout 2010-11, JLSP will continue to help build bonds with the children and families that attend the Dayton’s Bluff Recreation Center through monthly game and reading nights at the center. To learn more about Building Bonds through Reading and Play, please visit us at www.jlsp.org.
